J&B Red Program (Essays for Scholarship)“What Would C Do?’: Preparing Essays for the C Scholarship” Highlights: The J&B team worked with the client to help them prepare four essays (600 words or less) for the C Scholarship. J&B worked in a three-person team and split the project into main steps including: a brainstorming session, an outlining stage, draft writing, and a series of edits and revisions. The team helped the client uniquely capture their passion for mathematics and environmental activism in their personal essay, while also balancing their use of evidence and insights in their analytical essays. The Topic:J&B worked collaboratively with the client to help them respond to four essay prompts (in 600 words or less) for the C Scholarship. The Process:J&B worked in a three-person team and split the project into six main steps. At the beginning of the project, the J&B team met with the client and conducted a brainstorming session, going over the C Scholarship requirements while gathering the client’s ideas for each essay prompt. The team then prepared a set of outlines for the C essay prompts after carefully reviewing their required readings. The client used the outlines to create their first drafts, which the J&B team edited and revised to help the client write the second drafts of their essays. After the client produced their final drafts based on J&B’s edits, the team polished their essays, ensuring that each essay did not exceed the required word count and that the client’s ideas, personality, and insights were represented with clarity and eloquence. Writing Style:As the client is interested in the connection between mathematics and environmental activism, J&B helped the client uniquely express their passion for the interdisciplinary nature of numbers for the C Scholarship’s personal essay. As the scholarship’s subsequent three essays were more analytical, the J&B team helped the client capture key, stand-out ideas and historical examples as concisely as possible. Throughout the project, J&B was careful to help the client achieve a balance between evidence and analysis, so that their voice would shine.
