J&B Blue Program (ISSCY)"Exploring the Arctic for ISSCY” Highlights: J&B worked with the client on a 2,*00-word research paper, studying the Arctic ecosystem for ISSCY. J&B helped the client select a topic that suited their interests, provided them with background knowledge on their topic, prepared a detailed outline, and edited and revised their research proposal as well as their research paper drafts. The project was a learning experience, allowing the J&B team to help the client understand the importance of subsections, organization, and the overall structure of a research paper. The Topic:J&B consulted with the client on a 2,*00-word research paper for ISSCY on the impact of climate change on the Arctic ecosystem. The Process:At the start of the project, J&B met with the client and conducted a brainstorming session to identify potential research topics. As the client expressed an interest in addressing climate change, particularly in the Arctic, the team presented three possible sub-topics for the client. After the client selected the topic that interested them most, J&B shared ten reading materials to help the client gain background information on their topic. The team prepared a detailed outline for the client, including an introduction, literature review, methodology, and conclusion sections, which the client used to write their research paper proposal. J&B edited and polished the client’s proposal so that they could submit it to ISSCY and begin working on their paper. After the client wrote their first draft based on J&B’s outline, the team edited and returned it to the client with suggestions for their next draft. The client produced their final draft, including their abstract, based on J&B’s feedback, which the team revised to create a final, finished product. Writing Style:The client is a straightforward writer passionate about environmental science, so J&B made sure to provide the client with numerous scholarly sources related to their topic so that the project would not only be a chance to grow as a writer but to develop their knowledge as a researcher. Throughout the editing process, the J&B team helped the client understand the importance of subsections, organization, and the overall structure of a research paper. ISSCY allows student researchers to select a topic within the humanities and social sciences and explore it independently, so J&B was confident that the client’s independent, proactive style as a writer was an ideal fit for ISSCY. Throughout the project, the client was also able to increase their knowledge within their desired field of interest—a great start to preparing for college.
