J&B Orange Program (Scholastic) “Suspending Disbelief for Scholastic” Highlights: J&B collaborated with the client on a 2,*50-word Science Fiction short story for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The J&B team produced an outline and edited/revised a series of the client’s drafts to create a polished short story suitable for Scholastic. J&B consulted the client on personalizing the main character, creatively using the past and present tense to suit their story’s setting, and balancing realism with the suspension of disbelief to create a convincing Sci-Fi world. The Topic:The J&B team worked with the client to create a 2,*50-word short story in the Science Fiction genre for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Process:At the start of the project, J&B engaged in a deep brainstorming session with the client to gather multiple ideas for their short story. Based on the client’s ideas, the team presented three potential short story topics and summaries. After the client selected the topic that appealed to them most, J&B presented an outline to the client containing plot suggestions and key points to include in order to develop the conflict, setting, and characters of their short story. The client used J&B’s outline to produce their first draft, which the team carefully edited and sent back to the client with detailed suggestions. The client utilized J&B’s edits/revisions as a guideline to produce their second draft, which J&B polished to produce a final short story suitable for Scholastic. Writing Style:As the client is a descriptive writer with a passion for painting, J&B helped the client incorporate art into a central theme in their short story. During the pre-consulting session, the client voiced that they would like to develop a character who is similar to them, so the team assisted the client in adding key details to personalize the main character and make her relatable. The team also introduced a creative use of past and present tenses to suit the story’s setting. To create a convincing Sci-Fi world in just 2,*50 words, J&B helped the client introduce a balance between realistic details and the suspension of disbelief.
