The Topic:J&B instructed the client on how to produce macro and micro outlines for five-paragraph essays. The lessons took place over a period of 4 months, meeting twice weekly. The Process:Each lesson consisted of a 25-minute lecture, a 10-minute writing exercise, and a 5-minute homework review. The project contained two modules: 1) macro outlines, and 2) micro outlines. At the start of the project, J&B described the difference between macro and micro outlines. Each subsequent lesson of the first module involved breaking down a macro outline into the following goals: how to structure theses, introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions. At the end of the module, the client worked on a capstone project and independently produced their own macro outline. During the second module, J&B instructed the client on the importance of using micro outlines. The second module was broken down to include the following lessons: how to create a compelling thesis, conduct academic research using MLA style, create a hook and background, create topic sentences, support them with evidence, analyze body paragraphs, and polish your work. At the end of the second module, the client produced a final project and two capstone projects—all of which included creating their own micro outlines. Writing Style:The client is an innovative learner with the ability to self-assess their work. To help the client create strong analyses, J&B worked with the client on identifying what was missing from their evidence and exploring what they could add to it. The team also helped the client avoid including repetitive sentences in their outlines by modeling ways in which the client could diversify their key points and analyses. At the end of the project, the client’s final capstone project contained in-depth analyses and little to no repetition.
