J&B Blue Program (John Locke)“The Essayist Makes the Essay: Leadership and History for John Locke" Highlights: J&B worked with the client on a 1,600-word essay for the John Locke Essay Competition addressing the History prompt: Do leaders make events or do events make leaders? J&B broke the project down into a brainstorming session, a reading period, a detailed outlining stage, and an editing and revising process. At the end of the project, the client grew as both a historian and a persuasive essayist. The Topic:J&B collaborated with the client on a 1,600-word essay for the John Locke Essay Competition addressing the History prompt: Do leaders make events or do events make leaders? The Process:At the start of the project, the J&B team conducted a brainstorming session with the client. As the client expressed a strong interest in just one history prompt, the team shared reading materials to help the client narrow down the focus of their essay. Next, J&B prepared a detailed, 6-page outline for the client which they used as a guide for their first draft. After the client shared their draft and revision goals with the team, J&B edited and polished the client’s essay so that they could submit it to John Locke before the deadline. Writing Style:The client is a descriptive writer with a passion for history. To help the client craft a strong historical narrative, J&B worked closely with them to create a compelling hook and introduction, while polishing their topic and concluding sentences. J&B also guided the client with their paraphrasing, so that the bulk of their essay was in their own words and there was more emphasis on their analyses.
